Elegant & Beautiful Green Lifestyle Yarns

How much yarn do I need for example a scarf or using a different yarn for your project?

How Much Yarn?
#1 Yarn for a Simple Scarf Pattern

A simple scarf pattern casting on 25 stitches with a medium to bulky weight yarn, using size 8 to 10 needles will take about 2-3 balls of yarn (50 grams size). I usually get 3 to be safe and allow for fringe too. Safer to have too much yarn than too little! If you are doing a cables or ribbing pattern purchase double that amount to 4 to 5 balls of yarn (50 gram size). Note: Generally, bulky weight yarns do not pattern well in elaborate scarf designs, their beauty is in the fiber and knits with striking results in simple design patterns. However, I do have a pattern for a cabled scarf. There are a lot of variations, depending on needle size, yarn weight and pattern. You will need to play around with it.

#2 Using A Different Yarn for Your Project: Make Sure It’s Close in Weight!

1. Find the number of balls needed for each color for the ORIGINAL pattern.

2. Find the number of yards or meters per ball for the ORIGINAL pattern

3. Multiply the number of yards in each ball time the number of balls for the ORIGINAL pattern.

4. On the NEW Yarn find the number of yards or meters on the label or by the manufacturer.

5. Divide the total yards needed from Step 3. Above by the yards of your NEW Yarn!

6. Please round up to make sure you have enough yarn. Better to have too much rather than too little.
